What type of fibers and fabrics can be dyed with Natural Dye House?


We dye all natural cellulose and protein fibres and fabrics like cotton, hemp, linen, banana, vegan wool, wool and silk. We can also dye regenerated celulose fibres.




Are all the colours natural?


Yes! All of them are from natural source like barks, seeds, roots, food waste etc.




Are there any heavy metals in your dyes?


None. We don't use harmful metals or chemicals in our dyes.




What testing methods can be done to prove natural dyes?


There is a testing standards available for 6 raw materials: Rhubarb- IS 17214:2019
Catechu-IS 17211:2019
Lac dye- IS 17212:2019
Pomegranate: IS 17213: 2019
Natural indigo- IS 17084:2019
Madder- IS 17085:2019 Authentification of natural dyes can be done according to the BIS standard.




How can I make a difference between chemical and natural dyes?


Natural dyes have a very unique pigments that can be easely recognized by experienced eye. But there is a lemon test that anyone can run. Most of the colours made from natural ingredience (indigo being an exception) will bleach the by applying the lemon juice on it.




Do you have any certificates?


Curently GOTS or any other certification is not relevant to natural dyes. We can consider certifications based on customer request.




Can you match natural dyes with pantone colours?


No. Natural dyes has various types of colour components in the single source, therefore colour will look very unique.




You do prints?


Screen print is under development.




Do you sell dyes?


No we don't. We only provide dyeing service.




What is the colour fastness of your dyes?


Colour fastness to washing is 3-4, some colours 4-5, based on our recommended testing methods.

What is your MOQ?


Melange dyed yarn orders start from 150 kg/colour, garment and fabric dye from 25 kg/colour.




What is your TAT?


TAT depends on the factory schedule. Our regular turn around time for the melange yarn (fiber dye) is 60 days from the PO. Maximum daily capacity for the garment dye is 100 kg and fabric dye 150 kg. Indigo dyeing is completely manual process, light indigo aproximately - 300 pieces per day and dark indigo - 100 pieces per day. Garment, fabric and indigo dye TAT depends on factory schedule and can be confirmed before the order.




Can you make RFD for us?


Yes, it can be done with organic scouring agent.




Can you do bleaching for us?


Currently the most eco-friendly bleaching mehtod is done with hydrogen peroxide. Bleaching is carried out as per customer request only.




Can fabric be softened after dyeing?


Yes, we can apply organic softener to improve the hand feel of the fabric/garment.




What is the difference between synthetic dyes and natural dyes?


The difference starts from the raw material choise. Certified dyes still use hazardous chemicals for dyeing and even though water used for dyeing can be treated, every dye leaves behing toxic sludge and there is no concrete solutions for it's disposal til today. The natural dyes are all 100% bio-degradable in nature. They are safe for the enviroment and people working with it. Download the comparison table here




Will there be any colour change from sampling to bulk?


Yes, there will be mild colour change from sampling to bulk, since the lead time is long from sampling to order placement, sometimes even 6 months. So seasonal changes will result in a change in colour from the natural sources. Also, natural dyestuff grown in different geographical locations will result in small colour changes.




Will there be a lot to lot variation?


Very minor variations can be expected. In melange yarn, we can provide yarn without any variation for the full order qty of yarn.
